Scholarship Awarded to "Fashion Forward" Design Contest Winner

Hoffman Estates, Ill., (June 2, 2009) – The International Academy of Design & Technology (the Academy) announced today that graduating high school senior, Anna Romero, the local winner for the Academy - Las Vegas, has been named the winner of its national fashion design contest. She and nine other high school seniors saw their original designs come to life on the IMAGINE 2009 runway in Chicago on May 21 in front of an audience of more than 1000 people. That evening, Romero’s name was announced as the recipient of a full-tuition scholarship (valued at more than $50,000) to attend the Academy in Las Vegas.

2009 Design Scholarship Challenge Announced
Aspiring graphic designs students compete for $25,000 tuition scholarship and a chance to work on a DC Comics marketing campaign
CHICAGO, IL, April 29, 2009 – Aspiring graphic designers have until June 8 to submit entries to the “2009 Design Scholarship Challenge” to compete for the national prize, an opportunity to work with DC Comics on an upcoming marketing campaign for “Absolute Justice” and a $25,000 tuition scholarship to one of the sponsoring design schools. Hopefuls should submit entries to one of the schools which are: the 11 International Academy of Design & Technology (Academy) campuses, located in Chicago, Detroit, Las Vegas, Online Campus, Orlando, Sacramento, San Antonio, Schaumburg (IL), Seattle, Nashville, and Tampa; as well as Brooks Institute, Brown College, Collins College, and Harrington College of Design.

The Academy-Online Clubs & Organizations
The Academy Online is dedicated to providing our student body with a vibrant academic experience and extra-curricular opportunities as well. Found on our Virtual Campus are a plethora of clubs and organizations that both encourage and foster creativity in design, imagination and career aspirations. Several of our clubs and organizations are listed below:
1. The New Student Club
The New Students Club is a great place to network with fellow classmates at IADT Online! It is led by faculty and staff moderators, features live events with dynamic speakers and hosts vibrant discussion boards. If you have a question about any part of IADT Online, post it on the club discussion board and someone from the school will answer it within 24 hours!
2. The Graphic Design Club
Anyone interested in the exciting world of Graphic Design can join this club and meet/network with other IADT Online students to discuss the program, share best-practices, or just create new friends!
3. The Military Student Club
Any student/faculty with a military background can join this club and meet and network with other IADT Online military students to discuss the programs, share best-practices, or just create new friends!
4. The Study Buddy Club
The Study-Buddy Club is a place where you can share study tips and habits with your fellow college students. Having a challenge or concern with an assignment in one of your current classes? Ask your classmates for assistance!
5. The Fashion Forward Club
Anyone interested in the exciting world of Fashion Merchandising and Design can join this club and meet/network with other IADT Online students to discuss the program and anything related to the world of fashion.
6. London to Rome
This club is devoted to those students who are interested in participating in the London to Rome Alternative Quarter Break trip. This club will allow you to post questions, to get to know others participating on the trip and to better prepare our group for an exciting trip throughout Europe! So, don't hesitate to post questions, concerns, or ideas regarding our first annual Alternative Quarter Break trip!
7. The Freelancers Society
This club has been created to allow your entrepreneur spirits to fly high. For those interested in freelance work and those who are currently in the business use this forum to share, create, communicate, and network with other pre-professionals about the world of freelance artwork. Feel free to post advice, suggestions, strategies, best practices, and critiques of your ideas and others.
8. Academy Lecture Series Club
This club is designed to allow Academy students the opportunity to get more involved in the Academy Lecture Series. This space is used by students to recommend guest lecturers, lecture topics, and to post questions that they would like answered by our guest lecturers. Additionally, this space can be used as a venue to discuss upcoming or past lectures. So, if you have ideas for the Academy Lecture Series, this is the place to share them!

Artistik Envy

ARTiSTiK Envy, The Search for the Creative Genius
ARTiSTiK Envy provides students of International Academy of Design & Technology – Tampa (the Academy) the opportunity to take their studied trade and apply it abstractly through a creative, multi-media competition. The contest spans three months (September through December) with a series of events. The first challenge will take place on Friday, October 10 in room 407/470 located at the Academy, 5225 Memorial Hwy in Tampa. Preshow at 6 p.m./ Show begins at 7 p.m. / Post show to follow. The public will then have four days to vote for their favorite contestant and two will be eliminated before the next challenge.
ARTiSTiK Envy, the search for the creative genius, will host a series of five bi-weekly challenges that will ask students to push the boundaries of creative concepts and execution. Each challenge will be critiqued by ARTiSTiK's panel of industry professionals and will then be broadcast on the ARTiSTiK Envy website where the public will have a chance to review various presentations such as original produced music, fashion apparel, short films and more. Contestants work and vote for their favorite contestant online. The two contestants with the lowest amount of votes from each challenge will be eliminated.
Panel of judges include Charles Armstrong, CEO of SPARK Labs; Kate Whately, Art Director for PeakBiety branding + advertising, and Carl Vervisch, Copy Writer for SPARK – chose 10 Academy students and members of the Alumni to compete in ARTiSTiK Envy 2008. The contestants are Jovani Coleman, Rick Timpe, Brian Wilson, Jerrodoemie Winters, Kristi Lamons, Henry Spencer, Keith Burnson, Carlos Mangual, Walter Hamilton, and Corey Garlow.
The first challenge, "Havana Days," is to create a piece that explores Tampa's rich Cuban history and culture.
Following the challenge, video coverage and voting will be available on the website at http://envy.artistikmagazine.com. The public will then have four days to vote for their favorite contestant and will be eliminated before the next challenge.
ARTiSTiK Envy Calendar of Challenges:
Challenge Two - 70's Revival - Friday, October 24 at 6 p.m.
The Top Eight contestants will be asked to create a piece that considers the modern-day echoes of 70's styles and social trends.
Challenge Three - Goth Diva – Friday, November 7 at 6 p.m.
The Top Six contestants will be asked to create a piece that represents what happens when Goth meets Glamour.
Challenge Four - Urban Funk – Friday, November 21 at 6 p.m.
The Top Four contestants will be asked to create a piece that discovers what makes a city come to life.
Challenge Five - Surreal World – Friday, December 5 at 6 p.m.
The Top Two contestants will be asked to create a piece that makes a statement about the relationship between pop culture and the subconscious.
Final Results Show – Friday, December 19 at 6 p.m.
The big reveal of who will be named ARTiSTiK ENVY 2008 and featured in the January issue of ARTiSTiK Magazine.

Fashion Design & Marketing and Fashion Merchandising students will honor women of agriculture with a fashion show at the "Women of the year in Agriculture" luncheon, an invitation only event held at the Florida Sate Fair on February 5th 2008. The luncheon will showcase fashion designs created by Academy students and music produced by Academy Alumni Shorne Callahan and Jacques Duval of Bakaz Men.
